Curriculum Units

What Makes Our Units Unique?

Biblical Worldview

Each real world issue is taught starting with the Bible, because we believe that understanding God's heart is paramount to developing a lifestyle of compassion. Each unit includes devotions to help kids understand the heart of God and grow closer to Him.

Depth of Reading Comprehension

From literature to nonfiction, these units are designed with reading comprehension in mind. Students use a wide range of resources to grapple with big ideas, analyze different perspectives, and build critical thinking skills.

Practical Application

End-of-unit projects make the issues come alive and help kids make a difference now. A wide range of ideas allows kids to tailor projects to their needs and communities.

Flexible Scheduling

Units can fit into just about any schedule. Complete

the unit in as little as 4 weeks or stretch it over a semester. Pacing guides, extension options, and extra books are included in the Insructor's Guides.

REFUGEES UNIT

Student Notebook and Instructor Guide in one!

With so many refugees and controversy in the world today, it's important that we start with one question: What does God say? In this unit, middle and high school students dig into the Bible to see what God has to say about foreigners, from the law to Jesus Himself. Then they choose from a wide-range of books, including many first hand accounts, to gain a deeper understanding into why people flee their homes, how their lives are affected, and what our role is as God's people. This unit is recommended for middle school and early high school students. It can be adapted for older high school students. Great for homeschooling families, independent study, co-ops/small groups, and classrooms.

Books include:

  • Student Notebook Section:

    • Bible section focuses on what God says throughout the Bible regarding foreigners/aliens

    • Book list with wide range of novels and nonfiction resources for use during the unit

    • Reading response pages to deepen understanding

    • Guided research pages for use with online resources*

    • Student project to make a difference at the end of the unit

  • Instructor's Guide Section:

    • Lesson guides

    • Discussion questions

    • Ideas for adapting lessons to groups (games, activities, etc.)
